What is SMEFA?
We are a non-governmental organization that caters to the online communication needs of those with limited social media education. We educate especially Africans on the continent of Africa and people of African descent in the diaspora about the red flags that social media platforms may pose. These red flags include but not limited to false information, misleading links, scams, deepfakes, photoshop images that appear real, disinformation and anonymity that can pass on for truth and reality.


Mission Statement
SMEFA-NGO serves the need of those in Africa and other minorities who are in the margins and unable to grasp the full potential of social media communication in the digital age. It aims to educate these individuals who are less exposed to the dangers of digital modes of communication using in-person as well as online settings where the need arises.
Vision
We aim to close the digital divide gap such that those with limited educational and communicative skills to enjoy the full potential of the Internet. We hope to let those, especially in the subaltern in Africa and abroad be comfortable while navigating the web.


Goals/Values
1) Make online communication user-friendly to those who are illiterate in digital communication
2) Educate cyberimmigrants in developing countries like Africa to know the advantages and disadvantages of using social media communications
3) Make social media communication convenient
4) Educate Africans and people of African descent on the various forms of social media warning signs
5) Educate Africans and people of Africa on safety nets like factcheck.org or snopes.org for fact-checking important information on social media.
